The recommendations of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA) to promote exercise in cancer patients are addressed to doctors and patients, immunoncologia.org will treat this topic in depth in the future.

Walking as an example of moderate physical activity suitable for cancer patients Physical activity is essential not only to stay healthy, but also to fight cancer and exercise should be prescribed like a medicine.

This is what emerges from the document signed by the Australian Clinical Oncology Society (COSA) and published online by the Medical Journal of Australia.

According to the Australian Clinical Oncology Society, physical exercise should in fact become a standard for cancer treatment, as a complementary therapy and useful support to counteract many of the adverse effects such as fatigue, depression and weight problems.

All people affected by a tumor pathology should avoid inactivity and conduct normal daily exercise, maintaining a healthy and physically active lifestyle.

In fact, physical activity improves both aerobic capacity and muscle tone, reduces fatigue and stress related to the disease and improves the quality of life of cancer patients.

Clearly the type of exercise must be commensurate with the specific conditions of the individual and the type of cancer: for this reason patients should be monitored by physiologists and physiotherapists in a personalized program.

The Australian Clinical Oncology Society therefore invites all healthcare professionals providing cancer care to promote these recommendations.
